Hi, I’m Kate. I am the creator of this website. I have massive dreams of tiny living. I am currently in the process of fulfilling those dreams. My husband, Rob, our cat, Sunny and I all moved into our 21ft. travel trailer in the fall of 2012. Massive Tiny Dreams is about our journey, our inspiration and living life intentionally tiny.
This blog is for anyone interested in tiny living and the process of getting there, great road trips, the RV lifestyle, camping, minimalism and trying to figure it all out. We most definitely do not have it all figured out, but we are happily enjoying the journey.
How we got here in a nutshell:
Rob and I met in college, we were both theater majors and multidisciplinary artists of sorts… We each completed a BFA in Theater Performance. We got married, moved to Texas and started aband.
We were touring musicians and avid campers/road trippers who dreamed of having our very own warm bed to sleep in while on the road. We saved up, sold some of our possessions andbought an RV, travel trailer. This was the culmination of many years of fantasizing about having one.
We went on a few spectacularly beautiful and incredibly inspiring road trips that convinced us that this is how we would like to spend our lives on this awe inspiring earth. We decided to downsize in a major way. Over the period of three months, we sold and gave away the majority of our belongings and figured out how to transition from living in 1800 sq. ft. to living in approximately 162 sq. ft.
We love learning new things and we value personal growth. We also value experiences more than material things. Living tiny makes us constantly aware of what we have and what we need to get rid of. We love this exercise in conscious living. It forces us to be more creative with space and to continuously evaluate if we are holding on to that which no longer serve us, both in the physical world as well as emotionally and spiritually.
Freedom is essential to happiness. We love the idea of being able to pick up and go to a new location anytime we want. We are passionate about the RV lifestyle and everything that goes along with it. We are very grateful that we have the opportunity to live this passion on a daily basis.
How it is working out:
We are very happy for the most part. We are pleased with the simplification of our lives and don’t mind the close quarters. The positive most definitely outweighs the negative.
Of course, there are some challenges. Our primary challenge is finding creative and efficient ways to both store and access the equipment we use for our work and hobbies. Specifically tools for our work, instruments and recording equipment for the music we make, not to mention our other various creative and scientific projects.
I can’t lie, I miss having a full size closet and a full length mirror too. I have always had fun experimenting with fashion and there just isn’t room for that in our tiny abode. I think Rob mostly wishes that we had a full length bed for his 6ft. body.
We are saving money, and that is wonderful. It is a very important part of, if not the primary impetus for, the culture of tiny living. Living in our RV has helped us reduce our costs so that we can pay down debt and create savings. For us, this seems like the true path to freedom; it will definitely help us in the future to pursue our extraordinary wanderlust.
We travel somewhat frequently, but mostly for work and regular trips to see family in our hometowns. While we are filled with gratitude for those opportunities, we would really love to be traveling much more, seeing new places and having a variety of different experiences. We are happiest when on the road, and our bucket list is long.
1.)Save all of our pennies and continue to develop non-location dependent streams of income.
– BECOME DEBT-FREE.
– TRAVEL & LIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR A FEW MONTHS. REPEAT. REPEAT. REPEAT.
2.)Continue to play music, record albums and be involved in various music projects. Rob is acomposer with a budding film composing career that he is pursuing with passion.
– BUY LAND(S)
3.)Help others through Yoga, Fitness and Nutrition. I am a Yoga teacher pursuing education in and using my life experience in these areas. I intend to lead others towards greater health physically, emotionally and spiritually. I am particularly focused on populations with autoimmune and chronic ailments and stresses.
– BUILD TINY SUSTAINABLE RETREATS FOR WRITING, RECORDING, YOGA, MEDITATION AND RECREATION WITH OUR OWN HANDS FOR OURSELVES AND OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO ENJOY.
